Genesis 40

안녕하세요, family and friends. Today we’re reading Genesis 40.

Don’t worry if you don’t have a physical copy of the Bible. You can read it on Page 2 of this blog post.

One lesson we can take from this chapter is that we should not take everything at face value. This means to learn to read between the lines, as Joseph did.

This is very relatable, especially when reading passages from the Old Testament as times have changed. The lessons that are taught in stories within the Old Testament are from times when sacrificial offerings were made and this may have little implications in our lives today. However, that’s only when you look at them at face value. If we search for how each passage can relate to nowadays, we will realise how relevant the teachings still are.

Another lesson we can take from this chapter is that sometimes God uses our dreams to communicate with us. This is contrary to the belief that foretelling the future through dreams is a sin.

Personally, I’m still at a lost at how you can discern dreams that are God-sent from ones that are mere stories your unconscious mind has formulated. Then, I read this website – Catholic Culture and they explained that when God appears to us in dreams, he will make it clear to us that it is him.
