Today’s readings 3rd January 2021: Isaiah 60:1-6, Ephesians 3:2-3a, 5-6
In today’s readings, I believe that God is advising us to reflect on what was and could be this 2021.
2021 please be good to me.
Hope 2021 only bring good things.
That’s a sentence usual in this time of year. Asking for the year to be good to us, but it’s not all about what the new year can bring. It is also what you can bring in the new year and that’s something you can control.
My best friend asked me what my new year’s resolution was and I answered her with… ‘I just want to be better than I was last year.’ Keeping in mind what Father Orbos said in his Homily today.
“We should always bring the spirit of Christmas with us and never lose hope.”
Father Orbos SVD, Divine World Media PH
I think the way he described the values we should take in the new year is what captured me in today. We should follow in the footsteps of everyone present in the Nativity scene.
“If you hear God’s voice today, harden not your hearts, as in the provocation.” – Hebrews 3:15
Christ Jesus – reminds us that God is always with us
Mary – shows us the importance of reflection, prayers, acceptance and obeying God’s orders
Joseph – presents our faith in believing in God even when we don’t understand what is going on
Shepherds – reminds us to stay humble (it’s the key to having a peaceful life)
The three wise men (the three Kings) – shows us that not everyone who is rich has no sense of direction to God, like King Herod. The three kings were rich but they made the journey guided by a star to meet the son of God
The animals in the stables – a reminder to be kinder to nature and mindful of the effects of our actions
God – shows us the importance of love as it was through his love for us that he was able to give his only son, Jesus Christ, for our redemption
In parting, God prompts us to do and bring the following, in 2021:
- reflection
- prayer
- acceptance
- have faith
- humility
- guidance
- kindness to nature
- mindfulness
…and perhaps, the most important thing to bring in our journey this new year – love.

Lovely post and so insightful. Reflection is really important when something bad happens – like 2020.
I feel like reflection is good no matter what situation you find yourself in, but more so when bad things happen. Thank you very much!
Yes, hoping that this year is better than the last for you, and for the rest of the world!
